Three weeks ago we sold our rickety, old dining room table. It’s amazing how much you realize you need it when it’s gone.

We decided though it worked for college life, it just wasn’t worth hauling 700 miles to California. I’m excited to show you what our new table will look like! I’ve been working on “designing” it for weeks now. Here are the chairs, ordered from West Elm:

Aren’t they gorgeous? And that apple green color (they call it “stem”) is just the right amount of eye candy for me. I couldn’t be happier. (And another plus – Tyler loves them too!)

The best part is they’ll be easy to wipe down after Jack smears his pb&j all over it. :)

Our table is going to be a fantastic, easy DIY project that’ll end up being completely unique and will look like a million bucks. I’m going to order hairpin legs (possibly from ebay or from here) and screw them onto a slab of wood or countertop.

I was originally thinking laminate, metal, or plastic, but after much contemplation I think we’re going to go with wood for the table top. That way with the modern chairs it will still feel homely and warm. I’d love to get a nice, grainy wood with lots of character that we can stain a dark, chocolate color. I’m especially excited because we can really build as large of a table as we want to! We’ll see what we end up with. Here was my inspiration below:

I already scoured the hairpin legs company website (that phrase alone sounds hilarious. can we take a moment to giggle?) and found they will be plenty sturdy for a dining table. The legs pictured above are two-rod hairpin legs, and ours will be three-rod to provide optimum stability. Maybe we can build a matching bench too?

Is anyone else as excited about this as I am?

Edit: Maybe, maybe we might just go with a simple Parsons table. Do you think the hairpin legs AND the metal legs on our chairs would be too much together? I’d love to DIY a hairpin table though. Maybe as a second desk if we need one, or side tables for the family room and bedroom.
