Holidays aren’t really a thing at our house. I care at about a 50% level, and Tyler cares even less than that (read: he doesn’t exert any effort at all to celebrate). And so we fail at being festive every single time.
I try, but fail every year to decorate. I try, but fail every year to even put together a “holiday” meal.
Unfortunately, Easter is no exception. I say this in the kindest way possible, but Tyler can be sort of a grinch when it comes to holiday festivities. He doesn’t carve pumpkins. We went out exactly ONCE to see Christmas lights the entire month of December. He doesn’t dye eggs, and he won’t play along with the whole leprechaun thing yet. Forget about chocolates or flowers on Valentine’s day, and maybe we’ll get sparklers this year for the fourth of July. Thanksgiving is a story for another time – we basically don’t celebrate it at all. We know it’s a problem how apathetic we are about holidays.
Easter is one holiday I really hope we can celebrate better. It’s celebrating Christ so it should be important! We’ve already attended one egg hunt, and have plans to attend yet another next week. I didn’t decorate our house, but I did buy him an Easter basket with some new toys. (Look how festive we are!) As Jack gets older we will also focus more on Jesus and the real reason why we celebrate. I’m so grateful we’ve got this little guy in our lives that will force us to at least remember a few holidays a year. ;)
