I know this was a while back, but I’m going to share it anyway. On Halloween, Tyler and I scored free tickets to the Real Salt Lake soccer game. Our seats were pretty good, too! The stadium is brand new, so it was clean and modern. I enjoyed the game and the crowd—for the most part, it felt like the crowd of a minor league baseball game, where it was smaller and more personal.
But the best part, hands down, was this HUGE crowd of cheering Mexican fans in the south endzone of the stadium. (see picture 1) Before the game even started, they were beating on huge drums and chanting, and it continued non-stop throughout the ENTIRE game. Luckily, most of them dispersed at half-time to get snacks and whatnot, so it was quieter, but as soon as the second half started, they were hollering, bass-drumming, and snare-drumming it up. I’m not kidding you, it was loud. And constant. I don’t know how they keep it up for so long! Nonetheless, it made the game entertaining when they brought out the paper streamers and smoke bombs. They’d throw paper streamers onto the field, and they’d set off smoke bombs that would completely smoke their section out, along with 1/3 of the south side of the field. At one point, the goalie could barely see through the smoke on the field!
We’re glad we got the opportunity to go (this was actually Tyler’s second time going) and would definitely go again if the tickets were cheaper!
post script: Tyler joined an indoor soccer team! Last week he played goalie (they lost, but all the team members told Tyler he was really good—better than they expected!) and today he played his second game as goalie and they won 8-0! He’s really having a great time and I’m proud of him. :)
