Thank you, Katie. You're absolutely right - there is nothing wrong with one child. But I feel like there are more that are supposed to come to our family. I'm not set upon having eight, but a couple more would be nice. In all of our "perfection" as three, sometimes it is a little lonely.

Tyler and I really got overwhelming feelings of "we need to have another one RIGHT NOW" with Jack and Amelia. So I'm just counting on that overwhelming feeling of "the right time" to come again. And hopefully it's soon, but it seems like I've still got some grief issues to work out fully before the time comes.

RIGHT?! There is a lot of sacrifice involved, but that shouldn't make us unhappy. I'm retreading Bringing Up Bebe and just read about how motherly satisfaction is super low in the US compared to France. Perhaps it's just because of the way we raise our children, so we're constantly doing more than we need to to be above everyone else? And are people unsatisfied being mothers because they're part of the problem with their own parenting? I can't really say because I don't have more than one child. But the book (and everything else I read about it) tells me that kids aren't as "bad" or "difficult" in other countries as they are here. That leads me to believe a lot of it is parenting fault, not the kids.

There is nothing wrong with raising one child. I have noticed lately that you are writing about this anxiety regarding the size of your family.

It sounds like the pressure is external. When (and IF) you want to have another child, it will be clear to you and it will feel right.

And if not, that's okay too. Your only responsibility is being a great mom to Jack and a great wife to Tyler. And you seem to be doing a WONDERFUL job. I would never for one second think that you were a selfish person. I hate to see you being so hard on yourself. Try to understand you are perfect the way you are.

Yes, it's okay. We all make different sacrifices. I think of the "Law of Sacrifice" it's not an instruction manual, it's a commandment to be guided by the Spirit and obey. It's amazing the kind of spiritual growth we receive in exchange for our sacrifices, isn't it?

Dane and I have been thinking about you guys a lot lately as I can see now you know, some of our very near and dear friends (Mika and Jarom) just recently lost a baby. I am so glad to see that you have connected. I cannot even begin to imagine all that you have gone through an are still going through. For me, the hardest part about life is the wondering, what do I do now. Pretty much nothing has ever worked out the way I planned, and it's so frustrating! But the peace always comes later (sometimes much later) as I see God's plan is so much greater than mine could have ever been. (not easier, but better). We love you guys!

It is from that book! I remember we made a big batch once and took it to eat at a ward activity so we wouldn't be tempted with junk foods, and that you told me that you would be happy to eat this for every meal!

when I think of gingersnaps, I remember after your grandpa died. there had been a particularly bad day of family drama and I am not sure we had eaten all day. renee' had left some gingersnaps on our doorstep. they were magical, yummy, and healing and the best dinner ever! I should get her recipe!

I think of a new baby as an intruder - our family is close and familiar and loving the way it is, and someone new would be . . . not exactly unwelcome, but they wouldn't fit into our the life we'd worked out. After I had June I felt like I was completely done having kids; the thought of letting a new baby come disrupt our balance was so off-putting. But eventually I started thinking of a new baby as less of an intruder and as more of a child of my own I would love as much as Evan and June. Of course, now that Christian has come and gone, any other baby would be a very unwelcome intruder. If I stop feeling that way eventually, maybe I'll be ready for another.

But maybe not. Life has gotten confusing, hasn't it?

I can only imagine the turmoil your heart is going through right now. And unfortunately, there is no right answer. But I have no doubt that the same God holding sweet Amelia will bring another child to you in Hos perfect timing. Not that that will be easy(if that is His plan at all, I won't dare to assume), but if He brings you another little one, He will also be present to provide you the strength to go through it all! Praying for your heart, you beautiful mother!
